Looking at the wider picture

Although Windtech International mainly focuses on the technology of the wind industry, we are aware that it is important sometimes to step back from the development of new equipment to look at the picture more generally. For example, where should we concentrate research and innovation efforts and how does this tie in with considerations about use of different types of energy and whether or not they are subsidised? In his article on page 36, Gene Kelley, of W2 Energy Development Corp, argues that maybe we need to re-examine how we look at the availability and costs of different energy resources.

Tiff Thompson states in her column on page 38 that there is enough renewable energy available on planet Earth to allow us to wean ourselves off the non-renewables, but we do not yet have the accessories needed to achieve this. We’re fortunate that myriad renewable energy technologies and transmission innovations are at our fingertips, though we will need to think more broadly and troubleshoot their shortcomings – namely, the stored energy quantities of which systems are currently capable and the permitting, costs, incentives, timing and protests surrounding the building of transregional transmission lines.

The HUSUM fair also shows that the industry is widening. The products displayed during the early fairs were very closely linked to the technology of the wind turbine itself, whereas the present palette of products covers a much wider range, including turbine components, manufacturing processes, operation and maintenance technology and all sorts of finance and planning-related services. The topics discussed in various presentations and around the exhibition hall varied from potentially groundbreaking technologies to innovations in small components and techniques. On page 30 you can read our review about this year’s show.

Windtech International releases Media Planner 2013
As we all know, planning ahead is important. Why not plan to include Windtech International in your promotional activities to ensure you reach a truly international readership? Windtech International goes straight to key decision-makers in the international wind energy industry. Around half of our readers are decision-makers in senior management positions. Currently, 85% of the magazine's distribution is to individual qualified subscribers and it is our goal to increase this to at least 90% in 2013.

Windtech International reaches a wide readership of professionals active in the wind energy industry through a targeted global distribution. Around 4,000 copies are distributed worldwide (in 108 countries) with a frequency of eight issues a year. On average the magazine is read by 3.2 persons within each organisation. This means that Windtech International reaches more than 12,000 people in the industry. With its technology focus, Windtech International is clearly filling an information gap in the industry, and this is very much appreciated by the continuously growing readership. For 2013 we have prepared a Media Planner containing dates of magazine issues, and copy guidelines/deadlines for contributors, potential advertisers, and those wishing to reach our extensive readership. Please feel free to contact me to receive the 2013 Media Planner.
