Roaring 40s has announced that on Thursday 12 January construction commenced on Stage Three of the Woolnorth Wind Farm, Woolnorth Studland Bay, Tasmania.
At this stage, access roadworks to the turbine footings have commenced, and turbine footings are expected to be completed by April 2006. The construction of the turbine footings will involve 10,000 cubic metres of concrete, and will be the largest project of this kind under construction in Tasmania at present. It is anticipated that construction will be completed, and all turbines operational, by early 2007. Construction of the site infrastructure is being undertaken by local contracting company, Hazell Brothers, in a joint venture with AREVA, and is expected to employ 50 personnel over the life of the project. When completed, the site will comprise 25 new V90 wind turbines, each with a generating capacity of 3MW, for a total wind farm capacity of 75MW.
