WindPole Ventures has reported that it has entered into an agreement with American Tower Corporation to utilise a select number of its towers for the evaluation of wind assets at the sites and determination of viability for future wind power development.
Within American Tower's communications site portfolio are certain
towers that were built for microwave relay communications. Under the
terms of the agreement, WindPole Ventures?has access to the sites and
towers for an eighteen month period to undertake the evaluation.
WindPole expects to commence instrumentation of towers in target
regions in the next ninety days. WindPole and American Tower have
commenced commercial negotiations on access terms for sites that
WindPole believes are viable for retrofit conversion to electricity
producing wind generating or dual use, wind energy and communications.
If, after the evaluation period, WindPole determines that certain
towers are suitable for wind energy, the two companies will review
possible next steps.
