Portugal intends to hold its first offshore wind energy auction in the fourth quarter of this year. The government intends to instal 10 GW of capacity by 2030.

The government will hold a public hearing on proposals for the delimitation of areas to allow the deployment of wind farms off the country's Atlantic coast as a prerequisite to the auction. Portugal aims to source 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2026, up from around 60% currently.
