The Dutch government has released a plan that calls for nearly doubling the country’s plans for installed offshore wind power generation by 2030. The Dutch government now targets an extra 10.7GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 according to its Additional Design programme North Sea 2022-2027 (Aanvullend ontwerp Programma Noordzee 2022-2027).

The 10.7GW is in addition to the already planned 11.5GW by the end of the decade. The total combined goal increases to 22.2GW. The government has opened a public comment period running till the end of 2021 on the plan to expand the zones. The current timeline calls for the adoption of the revised plan by March 2022. The total installed capacity of offshore wind power in the Netherlands in 2021 is around 2.6GW.
