The German TSO Amprion presented potential locations for the onshore converter stations of the offshore grid connection systems DolWin4 and BorWin4. Due to the length of the offshore grid connections DolWin4 and BorWin4, Amprion will realise the projects in high-voltage direct current technology (HVDC), which enables the transporting of electricity over large distances with only minimal transportation losses. The onshore transmission network uses alternating current (AC).

The planned commissioning dates are 2028 (DolWin4) and 2029 (BorWin4) and they will be connected to the Amprion grid in Lingen, a town in south western Lower Saxony. The cables will cross the island of Norderney and reach the main land in the coastal town Hagermarsch. On the mainland, Amprion has to install about 150 to 170 kilometres of land cable between the coast and the grid connection point in Lingen. DolWin4 and BorWin4 will be installed parallel in the onshore sections.
