Hack the Wind: foster creativity to solve current wind energy challenges
WindEurope, in cooperation with the Netherlands Wind Energy Association (NWEA), will host the WindEurope Conference & Exhibition from 28 to 30 November 2017 in the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre. The WindEurope Conference 2017 will feature 40 sessions over three full days. In response to requests from participants to shorten the event, this will be the first time the event is three days in length, as opposed to three-and-a-half as in previous years.
The conference will open with politicians and industry executives debating industry trends and outlooks. This will be followed by a programme of parallel sessions featuring general and scientific presentations relating to onshore and offshore wind energy, including market developments, supply chains, turbine technology and much more. Of course, as in other years, the event is accompanied by an exhibition with more than 250 companies presenting their products and services.
Hackathon
On the first two days of the event, InnoEnergy and WindEurope are organising Hack the Wind – a hackathon to innovate and shape the future of wind energy. The principle of a hackathon is to develop ideas into proof of concepts around a theme in 48 hours. Projects are developed based on ideas expressed on day one by participants. The general scope of Hack the Wind is to predict, diagnose or optimise the future of wind energy and the goal of the event is to foster creativity to solve current wind energy challenges.
The technical partner of the event is Envision. Designers, developers, wind energy experts, data scientists and analysts will have the chance to work with Envision’s Internet of Things (IoT) platform and datasets to hack for a greener tomorrow. Two weeks before the event takes place in Amsterdam the online ideation phase starts. The ideation phase is meant to refine the ideas of the participants and achieve a product/market fit. Also mentors and final users are involved in the ideation process. This phase is meant for creating synergies among participants. All participants will be given access to a platform where they can contact mentors, ask questions, get ideas, view webinars and get insights.
Each prototype will be demoed at the end of the event and then the winners will be announced by the jury. The prize for the winning team is € 20,000. If you want to participate in this new event during WindEurope more information can be found at http://hackthewind.bemyapp.com/
