Vattenfall has signed a ten-year agreement to power Microsoft’s international data center operations in the Netherlands with wind power.

Microsoft will receive one hundred per cent of the energy output from Vattenfall’s new onshore wind farm that will be constructed at Wieringermeer polder, near Microsoft’s data center in the Netherlands. The wind farm will start producing renewable energy from 2019.Vattenfall recently announced to invest more than € 200 million to repower and expand the Wieringermeer wind farm and the wind farm will eventually include 100 turbines. Microsoft’s Dutch data centre serves as a regional hub for its cloud services and will provide additional capacity for customers across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as global customers.
