Taiwan has unveiled an energy plan that involves phasing out nuclear energy by 2025 and bringing its total installed onshore and offshore wind capacity to 4,200MW.

Taiwan will invest NT$684 billion (US$22.74 billion) to increase installed capacity for onshore wind farms to 1,200MW and offshore wind farms to 3,000MW by 2025. The country will be increasing electricity generated from renewable energy from the current 4.8 per cent in 2016 to 20 per cent, and natural gas plants to 50 per cent from the current 32.4 per cent in 2016 in the next eight years. Meanwhile, the country intends to decrease reliance on coal plants from 45.4 per cent in 2016 to 30 per cent and to phase out nuclear plants by 2025.
