Iberdrola and Arbórea Intellbird are testing a new drone for wind turbine blade inspection. The Hummingbird program's first trials are taking place at Iberdrola's Sierra de Dueña wind farm.The partnership began twelve years ago with the testing of the Arachnocóptero drone. Later, in 2015, Arbórea's technology for incorporating a digital model of the internal blade structure was tested. The new Hummingbird platform includes a small drone for automated blade inspection during flight, without the need to stop wind turbines. This platform can transmit high-resolution data and images directly to Arbórea's computer systems from any wind farm worldwide via satellite network.
