The Taiwan Wind Energy Association, initiated and organized by the Industrial echnology Research Institute, was founded in Taipei Jan. 10 with the purpose of promoting wind energy technology in electricity generation and the government by advising it on the development of wind energy and advising the government on the development of wind energy.

The US wind energy industry easily broke earlier annual installed capacity records in 2005, installing nearly 2,500MW or over $3 billion worth of new generating equipment in 22 states, according to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).

Both the USA and Canada experienced record installations of wind power plant in 2005, but an even bigger boost is expected in 2006 when new installations in North America will grow by over 50% according to a new study by Emerging Energy Research (EER), a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based research and advisory company.

In a press release of 6 December 2005, the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) noted that almost 10,000 participants were currently at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Montreal (COP 11) discussing ways to mitigate climate change. As the Association commented, renewable energies were playing an increasing though not yet sufficient role in many discussions during COP 11. WWEA called upon the COP 11 to recognise the full benefits of renewable energies, stop the proliferation of obsolete technologies and take into account the externalities of all energy sources.

BWEA has welcomed Tony Blair’s announcement of a review of long-term energy policy and called on the Government to put renewables at the heart of any new policy. While most media discussion about the review has centred on the question of nuclear power, it is also essential that the Review sets Britain on course to utilise our huge strategic indigenous renewable resources, such as wind, wave and tidal stream.
