E.ON UK has announced that it has given the green light for work to start on its 180MW £325 million Robin Rigg offshore wind farm.

The wind farm will be built in the Solway Firth, around 9km off the Scottish coast and 12km off the Cumbrian coast. With work due to start early in 2007 with completion in Spring 2009, it will be both the UK's biggest and one of the world's largest offshore schemes when completed. Robin Rigg will consist of 60 x 3MW turbines E.ON UK is currently in the final stages of completing a number of contracts that will take the project forward. Further details will be released at the appropriate time. The turbines themselves are 75m to hub height, with 44m turbine blades.
