Iberdrola wind energy project in Mexico approved Print E-mail
Thursday, 07 December 2006

The Spanish Designated National Authority regarding Climate Change, which reports to the Ministry of the Environment, has issued a letter of approval for the La Ventosa wind farm project as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), one of the flexibility elements included in the Kyoto Protocol, which IBERDROLA is developing in Mexico.

The Iberdrola wind farm, which has earned accreditation as a CDM for 21 years from 1st January 2008, will have 102MW of installed power. It will be located in the state of Oaxaca. With approval from the authorities in both countries, the initiative is certified as complying with requirements included in the Marrakech Accords, as an economic investment contributing to sustainable development in Mexico, in turn reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the ultimate objective of Kyoto.
