Siemens receives major order for offshore wind farm in Denmark Print E-mail
Monday, 07 January 2008

Siemens Power Generation (PG) has signed a contract with Danish energy company Dong Energy A/S for the supply of 91 wind turbines to extend the existing Horns Rev offshore wind farm in the North Sea off the Danish coast.

With a total capacity of more than 200MW, this is the largest order Siemens has ever received for offshore wind turbines. Installation of the wind turbines for the Horns Rev II project is expected to begin in early 2009, with startup slated for the end of 2009. The 91 SWT-2.3-93 type wind turbines, with a capacity of 2.3MW each, will be installed offshore at water depths of nine to 17 meters. The contract between Dong Energy and Siemens covers delivery and installation of the turbines, as well as a service and maintenance agreement.
