Gaia-Wind has announced the inauguration of its first wind turbine in Italy.

Owned by the University of Trento, the turbine started operation on the 6th of May 2007 and will be included in the universities research and training programmes. Sited in Trento, Italy, the 11 kW rated turbine has been connected to the local electricity network giving the option of exporting power to the grid as well as using it locally. A microprocessor controlled operating system gives extensive data about the turbine operation and allows online monitoring. The Gaia-Wind turbine has been designed to complement moderate wind conditions and incorporates a large rotor which is responsive even in light winds.
